Dana Mooney is an artist living in Vancouver, BC with her husband and dog, Cocanut. A lifelong artist, she has always been drawn to painting. She began her creative career path in makeup, eventually expanding into interior design. When an opportunity to sell her artwork in a boutique design store arose, she realized her paintings offered an avenue that married both her creative passion and entrepreneurial spirit. In collaboration with Flax Home, Mooney created a capsule collection of one-of-a-kind hand-painted 100% linen Euro Shams launching this October.

"My artwork always has the home and designed space at heart, and I love to explore various mediums in everything from murals to paintings on canvas to decorative pillows."

What inspires your creative process?

"Living close to the ocean has always been a luxury that I can't live without. I am inspired by the movement, colours and energy found at the beach. But beneath that, these paintings are an escape, a way to pause and find calm. Mental health lies at the heart of my work, and can be felt in the pieces of my own personal journey."

How did you first connect with the Flax Home team?

"I first met Vivian years ago, while I was a makeup artist. We reconnected when she launched Flax Home with Anna and Oana. We were both exhibiting at IDS West, and I have followed their brand journey since. I absolutely love their bedding, and the people behind Flax Home. When I had the idea to combine my artwork with their beautiful Showroom, and share in the story of relaxing at home - they were instantly into it and I'm excited to see the response from our customers. This collection stemmed from my struggles with sleep, postpardum and mental health, as I am a fairly new mother (of two years now). I know Vivian resonated with that story as well, as she has recently had a child around the same time."

What inspired this collection?

"The pillows I've painted with Flax are inspired by an ongoing pillow line that I create on my own annually. This collection will be the first time I've painted on linen [Euro Shams] and for bedding (rather than my usual cotton canvas throw pillows for sofas). They are an extension of my abstract artwork and a perfect way for the customer to build their art collection and tie their home decor together cohesively."

What can our community expect to experience at the art show?

"A light, uplifting and inspiring time! Prosecco and treats, socializing and reconnecting in a beautiful setting. Inspired by the theme of sleep, my son Evan will be in hand painted pj's and I will also coordinate with my sleep dress provided by Paper Label."

The Dana Mooney x Flax Home collection launches on October 20th with an art show from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Flax Home Showroom (858 East Hastings Street).
